Wack-o Time

We traveled to Waco this weekend to visit the madre and padre and their new house. They moved in a week ago and it looks like they have been here for years. Mom is always so good at getting the house from 0-60 in about 48 hours. She acts like she still has a long way to go but I call her bluff on that. There is not a box in sight and everything is in its place. She has always been really good about that. I guess with practice there comes perfection. The kids were so excited when we told them that we were going to Nana and Papa's. They played all day with the all the old toys that my sisters and I used to play with. It is really neat to see your own children play with the toys that brought you many moments of enjoyment as a child yourself.

I finally got to go to the little antique shop in the little town today. I have been here 3 times now and have wanted to go each time but seemed to run out of time to do it. Plus no one but me likes going into those type of places. I found a great desk in there that would go great in our front room to replace our computer armoire. And it was only $75!! It was a great deal. I didn't buy it though. Not real sure that I need it. The lady in there had her items priced so you didn't feel bad that you were buying something used and not new. She had taken the time and energy to repaint and refinish most of the furniture in there.

We headed out to the site of the Branch Davidians compound in the late afternoon. There was such an eerie feeling in the air while driving out there. It is way out in the middle of now where. Hubs said it reminded him of Children of the Corn. He joked that if anyone comes walking out of the field to floor the minivan and burn some rubber. There is a small monument at the site. There is also what looks like a church building and even about a half a dozen houses still on the property. Mom had heard there were still followers out there. The monument is very small considering the mark in history that event made. Almost as if they want to ignore the fact that it occurred..if the tribute is not significant then neither will the memory of it. A statue noted all the 82 people who died that day. Then on either side was small stones with each person's name on it with their age of death. I was the only brave one to get out and walk around plus I had the camera phone (we forgot our cameras so that is why the picture quality is horrible). I looked twice and could not find David Koresh's stone. It was so sad to see the stones of the children some as young as 1 and 2. They also had stones for the "aborted fetus" of so and so person. I guess these were the babies of the pregnant women. It was really sad to stand there on that property knowing the atrocity that occured. I have been reading up on the event ever since mom and dad moved here. I am anxious to read on it some more and get some information on the actual people that perished and those that survived. Sorry pics are not that great again they were with my camera phone. Mom said she wants to go back out there and get some more pics.

Anyway we also played Yahtzee. That has become hubby and my's favorite game lately. We are going to head home tomorrow just in time to catch up on laundry, grocery shop and get ready for the week. It is always nice to break away from the mundane daily life and have a change of scenery. I know the kids enjoyed it and so did we.
